Today, our new release SIDE A is out in its entirety.
While we are excited to share these songs, we’d like to take the occasion to encourage our fans to stay active in the fight for racial justice.
If you spend time listening to our new music, also spend time taking actions to contribute to social justice, today and every day henceforth. When we read and share the resources we come across on our social media feeds, let’s take the time to actually make the calls and send the emails.
It is too easy to feel accomplished by replacing the way we regularly post with topical sharing of resources without actually implementing the actions they call for into our day-to-day lives. If you are in a position to protest without placing anyone high-risk to COVID in increased danger, hit the streets.
The danger that black and trans people face living in America is too great for continued complacency and complicity. As a white band with a majority white audience, we must challenge ourselves and make concerted efforts to learn and grow towards dismantling the racist structures we benefit from and uphold through inaction.
All profits from our “Blotter L/S T-shirt” this month will benefit BRAVE SPACE ALLIANCE. Brave Space Alliance is a Black and Trans led LGBTQ Center on the south side of Chicago working to provide resources, programs, and services for LGBTQ individuals on the south and west sides of our city. Every month, we will donate profits from a different merch item in our store to a rotating NPO/cause.
Accompanying the release today is a music video for “Whistle in the Wind (End of Everything),” produced and directed by Weird Life Films.
“The vulnerability it takes to stand up for the people around us, the soul searching and perspective it takes to honestly make sense of the current moment that will continue to evolve with or without you. It’s about breaking free from the safety of your own comfort zone and being honest with yourself about where you stand right now. We all need to take care of ourselves and each other more than ever, just don’t give up on the moment.” - Jack

Friends and family…
TODAY, we are announcing the release of four new songs, Side A...
While we take pride in our art and love to share it with our fans:
We refuse to let this release distract us from the moment at hand. If you support our music, couple that with actions, today and every day henceforth, that are for the betterment of our community in Chicago, for the Black Lives Matter movement, and for dismantling the structures of White Supremacy in America.
We must all continue to educate ourselves, listen, donate, share resources, and allow ourselves to learn. You can start by making a donation to Black Lives Matter Chicago.
To provide some resources, here and here are two lists of petitions, donation funds, resources, and information on how to make yourself useful to the movement and take action:
Additionally, we ask that you:
* visit 8toabolition.com and educate yourself on the danger of police reform, and why we must take steps to actually defund and dismantle the police in America, working towards equipping communities to provide for their safety and well-being
* visit defund12.org to take action steps in your state to reinvest outrageously inflated police budgets back into our communities
Regarding the new release: you can hear the first track “What’s the Matter” here now. Clay says this song "was written with groove in mind. recorded it in our practice space studio. got our friend V.V. Lightbody to play some of the funkiest flute you ever heard. our friend Sima smacked on some of her gorgeous singing. A song against the darkness, against Ganon, a song for the outdoors and the hero. There is a sword hidden in the lost woods and it will be found.“
When you preorder the 10”, you will instantly receive a download of all four songs so you can hear it right now. The 10” won’t be shipping until October because of delays related to Covid, but the EP will officially be released digitally on July 3rd.
We also have some new merch, including the “Galaxy Wide Tee,” “Blotter L/S Tee,” and the “Business Tee,” as well the “TPD Walkin’ Hat” and a Twin Peaks sticky notepad. All profits from the “Business Tee” this month will benefit Black Lives Matter Chicago. Each month moving forward, we will donate profits from a different merch item in our store to a rotating NPO / cause.
